Bones and Shrooms is a game that were made in a 4 weeks game jam. I worked on it as a game and level designer, level builder, and developer. Bones and Shrooms is a metroid - like where you play as a skeleton that is looking for his bones. At the beginning, you only play the head, then, you pick-up the leg and you gain the ability to jump. My role on the project was to think with others game designer about the abilities of the character, and to define every ingredients we needed. Then, with another level designer, we created all the levels for the prototype. Finally, as a level builder, I received all the 2D environmental assets that artists were creating, and I integrated them in Unity, in order to create the level. I also have developed some interactions (interruptors that unlock doors for example, or platforms that destroy themselves) . Here is a short gameplay demo of the game !
Feel free to download it here ! The game has still some bugs, but remains playable ! Here are some documents that we made as level designers. We begin to think about our global level on a blackboard, then we design each section separately. Then, I received every graphics asset, and I use those plans to integrate them correctely. The game is composed by a hub, that allows player to go from one level to another. Each level are accessible depending of what ability the player has unlocked. The player get new abilities by picking-up bones. For example, he begins only with his head (he can only move by rolling) , then he picks up his first bone, so he can jump. Jump allows him to access the next level, which is built around the jump ability. Then, he picks up his second leg, and he can now give kicks to broken objects (and he has a new jump, higher) .
